• Kerala - Minnu: Kerala minnu mangalasutra is a symbol of purity and chastity. The mangalsutra is called "Thaali" by the Hindus in Kerala and "Minnu" by the Christians. They are tied together with a yellow thread. During the wedding ceremony, the groom will tie the two gold discs, each with its own yellow thread, around his bride's neck. Three knots of mangalsutra are tied by the groom.


• Maharashtra - Vati: The Maharashtrian Mangalsutra is well-known for its combination of black and gold beads, strung in a double line. The central pendant is made up of two gold vatis (cups). This vati motif is symbolic of Shiva and Shakti. Two strands made from gold beads are fused together to signify the holy union. The mangalsutra strand's black beads are believed to protect against evil and bring happiness into the marital relationship. The mangalsutra pendant is worn by new brides for one year to indicate their newly married status.


• Bihar - Taagpaag: Bihar Taagpaag Mangalsutra design is an auspicious tradition of wearing a Mangalsutra. It is made up of many intricate pieces, each having its own unique importance when it comes to the design. The Beads on the mangalsutra are mainly made up of 108 beads, with some other small beads strung on either side as well. There are different types of Taagpaags that have different designs.


• Kashmir - Dijhor or Dejhoor: A mangalsutra is a traditional Indian necklace that is worn by married women. It’s believed to be a symbol of love, protection, and respect for the woman’s husband. Traditionally, it’s made with black beads made from the seeds of a tree called the rudraksha or with 9-10 beads made from gold.
